Ran Stop Sign Car at stop sign: Westport, IL

Saturday October 11, 2008 about 3:15pm I was headed home from my first job then headed to my second job. My accident happened just a little bit outside of Westport, IL. This was a small interchange from Illinois 33 to US Route 50. I was headed around the curve doing about 45mph almost to the onramp to Route 50. I see a car stop at the stop sign. I don't have a stop sign. Then as I'm getting closer I see them start to go and I didn't even have time to hit the brakes. I hit them head on going 45mph. Needless to say, it didn't feel good. The impact from the seatbest and the airbag hurt so bad that I jumped out of my truck and started screaming at the top of my lungs. After me running around for about 30 seconds trying to get over the pain I realized that the people in the other car wern't moving.

I ran back to my truck looking for my phone. I couldn't find it. Oh...and this knocked my glasses off my face so I couldn't see a thing. Finally I see a guy run over and he was sitting up the street on his motorcycle and saw the whole thing. He called 911. It turns out it was an elderly couple that pulled out in front of me. We helped the passanger out of the car. We ran to the other side and the mans arm was broken and his leg was trapped. As you can see the Emergncy services cut his doors and frame out to get him out.

They rushed them to the hospital. I tried calling the hospital to see if they were alright and they won't tell me anything. The couple was ticketed for failure to yeild right of way. My truck is totaled. Needless to say their car is too. I'm still waiting to hear from the insurance company how much I will get. Oh...BTW, I found my glasses on the dash and my phone in the floorboard but somehow lost my wallet during the accident, which was in my back pocket. Go figure.
