Iran Car Accidents.
According to official estimates by the Iranian Ministry of Road and Transportation, each year there are around 25,000 fatal car accidents and about 250,000 injuries- it is estimated car accidents claim three lives per hour in the country. Iran (also called Persia) is the world's 17th largest country with a population of about 70 million. The country has a diverse landscape and roads cross through mountainous areas with falling rocks, and many twists and turns that contribute to the dangerous road conditions. Additionally many of the vehicles are older and not well maintained. Iranians are considered (by some) to be aggressive drivers and driver behavior has been blamed for the high accident rates.
Indeed, an Iranian official in an interview published online attributed about 70 percent of road accidents to reckless driving, 15% to car failures and the remaining 25 % due to the poor state of some of the roads. This official cited: Illegal overtaking and high speed driving as prime causes of accidents on Persian roadways. Drive Safe!!!
