Wappinger Falls, NY - On Friday January 21, 2005 at 00:32 the Hughsonville Fire Department and Town of Wappinger Ambulance were dispatched to a serious injury accident on Old Hopewell Rd near the fire station. On the arrival of Chief Glenn Kramer he found a Mitsubishi Eclipse that had hit and snapped a pine tree on the drivers side. Upon further investigation Chief Kramer found one victim staggering around the scene who then collapsed, it was determined that this was the passenger of the vehicle and that the driver was still trapped. A helicopter from Stat Flight was dispatched and landed at the Hughsonville Fire Station.
Evaluation of the driver found that he was severely trapped with his lower extremities entangled and wrapped around the tree. A second helicopter was then requested. The first helicopter had an extra paramedic on board who is also a Hughsonville fireman and he was able to stay with the driver while extrication was being performed and administer advanced medical treatment. It took firefighters over 50 minutes to extricate the driver. Both victims were flown to Westchester Medical Center by two Stat Flight helicopters.
The road remained closed until 06:00 as the Dutchess County sheriff's conducted accident of reconstruction; they were also assisted by the Hughsonville Fire dept MOMMAS TOWING of wappinger falls ny. Tom
