Volvo Side Impact- ICU Broken Pelvis

December 26 2008 changed my life forever. The day after Christmas my best friend and I were out shopping and decided to go to see a movie, when the movie was sold out we waited for the next one. While waiting we went to Taco Bell and then decided to go to the Walmart in Lafayette Colorado. She was driving a 1989 s70 volvo when she decided to turn left infront of a line of traffic.
I was busy on my phone and look over my shoulder just in time to see two headlights coming straight at me. I covered my eyes, held my breath and waited for impact. An old small toyota hit us, the driver broke her wrist. The driver of my vehicle did not receive any injuries. As for myself I spent the next 8 days in the hospital, 4 of which were in the ICU. I stopped breathing many times, blacked out and was very sick. After months of rehab and tests it is concluded that I broke my pelvis in 7 places and my back in 6.
It's been 2 years now and I suffer from chronic back and hip pain, I am nauseous all the time and throw up often. I get steroid shots in my spine to help along with many medicines and alternative treatments. I know I am very lucky to be alive. Anytime someone new sees the police report or pictures or even hears about it all they keep talking about is how it's amazing I'm alive. It truly is a miracle that I'm here today and I hope my story will help teenagers realize the consequences of their actions and hopefully they'll take the time to be more careful and they could ultimately save a life.
