This happened in Plano, TX, a suburb of Dallas, on Sunday, June 22nd, 2008, at the corner of Legacy and Custer. The family of five had just left church in the tan Ford Freestar; all five were wearing seat belts. A black Pontiac SUV ran the red light at an estimated speed of 50-60mph and broadsided the minivan. You can't really tell, but there is a white Chevy Silverado behind the minivan that was also struck as the SUV rebounded off the minivan. The driver of the SUV was hospitalized in critical condition and has been charged with five counts of manslaughter. In the minivan, the two parents were sitting up front and three little girls, 12, 6, and 5, were in the back. One child was thrown from the van and witnesses attempted CPR, but to no avail. All were pronounced dead at the scene. It is a senseless tragedy that has yet to be explained. No drugs or alcohol were found in the driver's system, so what could possibly be his explanation for driving so recklessly? Please be safe out there. I cannot imagine being able to live with myself if I was responsible for so much death.
