Bridge Structural Failure.
Major Disaster. An span of an interstate bridge collapsed into the Mississippi River during evening rush hour on 1 August 2007 at around 6.05pm, crushing cars, plunging many vehicles reported to be as many as 50, into the water.Witnesses are said to have heard a rumbling noise before the bridge dramtically fell at once in several sections into the river. A train passing beneath the bridge was also crushed. At the time of the collapse traffic on it was characterized a "bumper to bumper" which means there where hundreds of cars on it. The bridge was a large arch built in 1967 and was 64 feet above the river.
The Bridge was Rated a 4 out of 9 and deemed "SD" Structurally Deficient in 2005. Who will take responsibility? All I see on TV is politicans dissembling and avoiding the issues. The Governor looked particularly weak on this issue. ED 8/2/07

Hello I just thought you would like to see more pictures of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis, I am going down there to take some of my own.
As of now, 30-40 people still missing, 79 injured and 4 confirmed dead. This is a 4 lane highway each way and is a main artery into the downtown area, this is a horrific event and is going to take a LONG time to recover from! Many people in this state have been effected by this event, and will be for years to come.

I live in St. Paul and I am 5 min away from the bridge and I am shocked that it fell. That is a major highway for people in Minneapolis. I've been on that bridge many times before. My condolences to all the people that have perished. As far as right now..(says the news) 7 people have died and about 30+ people are injured. Joe B. 8/2/07
