My teenage nephew rolled his car, 1999 Dodge Intrepid on July, 2007 at around 2:30am. He had been drinking and was driving very fast.
He was alone in the car and thankfully no-one else was on the road. The air bags did go off in the car, but he didn't have his seatbelt on and was thrown from the car, The car landed 3 different times in the ditch. He laid in the ditch for about 2 hours before someone came along and found him and by that time his body temp was down to 91. He was air lifted to HCMC, Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN (An excellent hospital)!
He had broken his arm in two places and one place the bone had went through the skin, so he laid bleeding in the ditch. He bit his tongue almost in half, had split open his bladder and scraped his face to where he was almost unrecognizable along with severe brain trauma.
He was unconscious for 5 days and then after he came to it took another 2 weeks before he understood what was going on. The doctors said he is very lucky to be alive and come out such an accident without any Brain damage. He's still recovering at HCMC, he's in rehabilitation for the brain trauma. His injuries are healing along with his brain healing from the trauma. He truly is a miracle and had an angel looking over him, not everyone is as fortunate as he was to survive or come out with no permanent damage as he did.
ALWAYS WEAR A SEATBELT! DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE. You're not only hurting yourself, but everyone else that cares about you! This is one of those "every parents worst nightmares" Kathy
