I came in at around 4 am Friday- Saturday April 20, 2007 and looked out the window and saw 6 (six) state police cuisers!!!, a tow truck and something in the off ramp. I went down stairs (with my camera of course) the state police had blocked the Kenmore exit, and I saw a motorcyle wrecked in the middle of the off ramp about 200 feet from storrow. It appeared from the wreckage that the bike hit in the usual accident spot on storrow headed east (see below) and then landed far from the crash point on the Kenmore off ramp. As I write this 4.50 am the cruisers are still there and police in yellow jackets are walking through the median strip with flash lights looking at bits and pieces. I assume this is a fatal wreck and they are investigating the cause. They are focused on a section of guardrail very far from the bike's final resting place (200 feet+)- they seem to be having a difficult time finding the point of impact because of the previous damage the guardrail has sustained.
I went down and snapped these pics, the police were less than pleased. I was asked what I wanted and they shined a flash light directly at my camera so the pics would not come out. I told them I ran this site and would be promoting driver safety-but they didn't seem to care. I asked if the bike hit at a point in the road and one of the officers shouted " No, get lost." And told me not to take their picture. I understand that they don't want the investigation compromised- but we are promoting public safety- clearly this exit- section of storrow drive is unsafe and an accident disaster zone. I was respectful to the police officers doing their job and left the scene but managed to get these few shots before they told me to leave. Will post Boston Globe info if accident is reported.Editor of Car-Accidents.com BK 4/21/07 4.55 am
I went down again after the police left (at 5.30 am) and it was obvious from the marks on thr ground and debris that the driver of the bike missed the curve (to continue on storrow East) by about two feet and skidded on to the median. Pieces of the bike are all over it. It was a Kawasaki of some kind (I found a part with that name). I assume the driver was thrown far and killed.
