It was so severe of a crash that it bent about a 1 foot section of the passanger side frame & twisted it like a pretzel.

This here accident occured back on November 2, 2001. This
is a 1987 Dodge Dakota, that I bought on Halloween Day in 2001.
Two days after buying this truck, is when the accident occured.
I was at an intersection controlled by traffic lights, turning
left off of the road on to a parking lot. I had a green light
with no arrow, to yield to oncoming traffic before making my
turn. It was approximately 4pm & the sun was in my eyes,
and I thought it was clear so I proceeded to make my turn. The
next thing I knew was a loud crash & sudden stopping of the
vehicle. There was a small car (don't remember what type of car
it was), that was doing approximately 50 Mph that had made no
attempt to slow down & we had collided. I was issued one
citation for failure to reduce speed in order to avoid an accident.
My insurance totalled out her car, however did not pay for my
truck, as I only had liability insurance on it. It was so severe
of a crash that it bent about a 1 foot section of the passanger
side frame & twisted it like a pretzel. The bumper went through
the grille & a/c condensor, causing the radiator fan to slam
in to the radiator.
I kept the truck for about 2 years in hopes of fixing it, but
never did manage to do so. I sold it to a friend of the family
for like $200 or $300 (don't remember exact price sold for),
after paying $1800 to buy it. The friend of the family ended
up finding another Dakota with a bad motor & using its parts
to fix this one here. He had to cut off the section of the frame
& weld a new section on. Than he had to replace the entire
front clip (both fenders, hood, bumper, grille, radiator support,
radiator, fans, a/c condensor, headlights, turn signals &
both front doors. He than had to replace the starter & drain
all the old fuel out & replace with fresh fuel. He than sold
the truck himself to another person, who was driving it for a
year that I know of.
Amazingly enough the only injuries substained by myself or the
driver of the other vehicle was a bruise from my seltbelt. The
ambulance that responded to the accident, parked in the middle
of the road, with his front end facing the passanger side of
my truck. While the 2 paramedics and several firefighters were
prying my door open to get me out, someone came along & hit
their ambulance hard enough to push it approximately 10 feet
to where the front end of the ambulance was about 2 inches from
the bed of my truck afterwards. Both medics & the firefighters
jumped backwards from my truck about 20 feet, as they were afraid
that the car was going to push the ambulance in to my truck &
knock them over. I'm not sure what kind of trouble that driver
got in to, however probably quit a bit, since he was doing approximately
65 Mph in a 35 Mph zone & hit the ambulance while parked
in the road with its lights on. I call this the Halloween Jinx
Accident as when I bought the truck on Halloween day & took
it down to the insurance company the same day to put insurance
on it, the agent asked me if I made the right move by buying
it and I said "what you mean by that" and he replied
"are you sure your not jynxing yourself by buying a vehicle
on Halloween?". - Tim
