This is a story of an almost fatal accident that occurred on February 24, 2007 on a return trip from a visit at my Father's. It happened in Swift Current Saskatchewan, Canada around 6:30pm. It included my 1993 Pontiac Sunbird SE on a cool Winter evening. This is my story - these are my words.
On a routine drive home from work, I decided to stop by my father's house and say hello. On my way home, I was taking a 'S' turn - one that has been taken numerous times before, but that day, black ice was smothering the road way. When I went into the turn, my back hand went out and all I could do is hold on. I did a 180 degree turn and hit a tree at about 45km/h. The car collapsed all the way to make the passenger side of the car hit the center of the car. This was followed by a severe blow to my head by the intruding tree. I was not found for about 20 minutes and on arrival from my rescuers, my car was still running and i was unconscious and bleeding out. I do not remember 2 hours before the accident and 4 days into the hospital.
When i was taken to my local hospital, I was revived and air lifted to the RUH in Saskatoon Saskatchewan were I was in comma for three days. After an additional 8 days in the hospital I was released with a healing time of 12 - 24 months. Diaganosed with a severe ABI (Aquired Brain Injury) life has brought forth new changes that have been somewhat challenging for myself and other's to get use to.
Life is precious and I'm happy I still have fine. You never know what can possibly happen at any given second, so be careful and love your life, as it could be over instantly without warning.
