Rear Ended by Flatbed Driver

Hi My Family and I were in a Wreck on 6/23/2001.
My family and I ( wife- who was rear right passenger, 9 month
old son- who was in rear facing car seat in middle of rear, mother
in law left side rear, father in law - driver and myself, front
passenger ),were sitting at a red light on the Great neck hwy
in islip long island NY. A 30' flatbed towtruck carrying and
car on its bed , and another in tow, rear ended us doing 35-40
mph. The driver of the tow truck told police he just wasnt paying
attention? He said he looked down at the floor of his truck,
looked up, and there we were ,and he didnt even have time to
break. Witnesses say he was on cell phone, shame shame!!
It took the fire dept over a 1/2 hr to free my wife with the
jaws of life. My sons car seat cracked in half. I was able to
free him by slipping him through the broken seat. We all recieved
injuries. My wife came forward over seat where her face smashed
into my skull dislocating her jaw, a very large laceration, paralisis
in her face, neck and back injuries, torn ligiments in her hand
and now bouts with a severe case of post tramatic stress syndrome.
My son was very lucky!! CARSEATS, he crawled away with soft tissue
damage . My mother in law also came over the seat and hit my
father in laws skull. She has all of the same injuries as my
wife excluding torn ligiments in her hand and post tramatic stress.
My father in law sustained laceration to the skull, whiplash
and back injuries. I, myself substained the exact same injuries.
You never know what will happen on the way to feed the ducks.
