These photos were taken at about 5:45 am on Sunday November 18th in Springfield Massachusetts. We were called to a MVA and told that a car was submerged in a swimming pool. Upon arrival at the scene, we found that the car was completely submerged in 10 feet of water, in an inground swimming pool.
The driver has drove up the curb, and through a white, metal fence before coming to a stop. Once he stopped, his front seat passenger, exited the car and the driver "THOUGHT" he had put the car in reverse, when in actuallity, he had the car in "DRIVE". He never saw it coming, and he slammed his foot down on the accelerator, and drove straight into the deep end of the swimming pool.
Him and his backseat passenger were able to climb out of the sunroof, but they were soak 'n wet and they fled the scene, but were later caught.
We had to wait until the Springfield Fire Department was able to drain enough water out of the pool (about 44,000 gallons) before we were able to start our recovery. We ran a strap thru the back doors and under the car and backed our heavy duty wrecker to the edge of the pool. We extended the boom on the truck and were able to lift the car straight up in the air and out of the pool. We found out later that the car had stolen license plates and was NOT registered,
We dropped the car in the street and loaded it up and cleared the scene. The pictures are kind of dark, but they were taken very early in the morning with a very limited supply of light so I picked the best ones we had. - Arment24
