The photo was taken at the wreckers a few days after and the doors were leaning up against the car. I was the only driver and only had minor injuries. Was only a couple of days after I got my license and decided to take my mum's company car for a spin - first time driving by myself. Basically just turned a corner too fast and drifted into a power pole on the driver's side.
My legs were stuck and they didn't want to pull me out through the passenger side in case I had serious injuries. They had to tow the car out from the pole and use jaws of life to cut the doors off. I was in the car for over an hour until I finally got taken to hospital. I was in lots of pain and thought I'd done some serious injury. Definitely not a pleasant experience.
Chipped off some of my ribs which kept scraping against something inside (lungs?) which caused pain whenever I did anything strenuous for a few months. Serious bruising around the right rib cage (where I hit the pole). Chipped a few teeth. Also couldn't walk for about a week. Date: Few days before Christmas 2001
Where: Launceston, Australia
