This Fatal UK Crash: Pic 1| Pic 3
The accident happened on the 6th November 2004 at about 14:10pm
driving north up the A68 Nothumberland, England. The car wasn't
even a year old!
My fiance was driving and I was the front seat passenger. The
speed limit on this road is 60mph, though some areas are further
restricted because of the number of accidents which have happened
on it! At the point of impact we were doing about 50mph. As we
approached the brow of a hill in the road a VW Golf was on our
side of the road doing 93mph! There was no chance to break because
it happened so quickly. He hit us head on! The driver of
the other car died instantly.
I realised straight away that I had broken my right arm so I
pushed the door open with my legs and climbed out ( my fiance
unclipped my seatbelt for me ). I ran around to the drivers side
and somehow managed to pull open the door with both arms! I was
so desparate to get him out becuase there was smoke everywhere.
He switched off the engine and walked away with me. A passer
by stopped to call for the police and ambulance ( thank you )
and many other stopped to give us blankets to keep us warm.
I was released from hospital that same night with a broken right
arm, cuts, bruises and whiplash. My fiance was in hospital for
one week his injuries were:
Broken ribs
Broken colar bone
Crushed vertebrae (lumbar)
Whiplash.
He was given a spinal brace to wear for a few months to help
build some strength up in his back and is still waiting for an
operation to repair his colar bone ( almost 9 months later! ).
The police and ambulance were amazed we walked away, they said
it was only the good car that saved us really!
The inside of the car didn't crumple at all ( thanks audi! ),
though the outside wasn't pretty, the shock from the impact had
even caused slight damage to the rear passenger side of the car.
We would definatly reccomend audi for safety! We now have exactly
the same car again, only this time it's black!!
