This accident happened in Gastonia North Carolina on 02/24/05 @ about 9:30 am. I was traveling North down Myrtle School Rd and the driver of a KIA Van was traveling South and crossed the double yellow line, facing oncoming traffic. I was struck by this vehicle and pushed into a ditch, and then in the yard of 1136 S. Myrtle School Rd. were I was struck by a fence and the post came through the windshield of my car.
The other driver passed out just prior to the collision. I had my sister in the car with me, we were transported to GMH and then latter I was taken to CMC in Charlotte for a higher level of care. My sisters injury's were: Fractured Sternum, Fractured rib, she had lots of bruising from the seat-belt and air bag. I'm happy to say she is doing well. My injuries were: Right C7 Transverse Process Fracture (neck), Right Clavicle Fracture, Right Lower Compound Tibia and Fibula Fracture, Right Ankle Fracture, Right Compound Wrist Fracture/Tendon Laceration, Right Knee Laceration (with cartilage lost and bone exposed), Right First Posterior Rid Fracture, 40% Right Pneumothorax (Lung punctured), 10% Left pneumothorax, Multiple Liver Lacerations, Gallbladder Laceration, Spleen Laceration, Right Acetabular Fracture(Pelvic), Right Knee Laceration (with bone exposed).
Needless to say it was a really bad wreck! Its been about 2 1/2 months and I'm getting better every day I still have a long road ahead of me. As to the other driver I don't know the extent of her injuries. We both hope to never be in another wreck. Were just really glad to be alive!
