Elkhorn Nebraska. On January 16th, 2005, I was driving home with my friend and brother. I pulled up to a red arrow, next to another car in a second turn lane. I was planning on driving onto an onramp, and my lane ended shortly, so i was planning on going ahead of the car next to me.
When the light turned green, i started to pull ahead, but hit a patch of ice that mealted from a snow drift during the day. I fish tailed one way, then hit some dry cement and was finnaly able to turn back, then hit more ice and went the other way.
I flew off the bank and took out a light pole, and slid down the hill. The impact from the pole caused the air bags to eject, and the pasenger side one broke the window. Where the right front hit the pole it bent the tire in, and bent the drivetrain, so the car was considered totaled. Everyone was fine though, we wore our seat belts! An SUV would have probably rolled down that hill, so we were pretty lucky.
