Framingham, Massachusetts at 6:30pm in winter so it was dark.
I was going from work to night school for class. I was travelling
on a 35 mph street in traffic so I wasn't speeding. I was less
than 2 miles from school where I had planned to take a nap before
class. I was extremely tired and had been drifting off to sleep
the entire way.
Obviously one too many times I fell asleep. I woke to hitting
the curb off to the right of the road. As I hopped up on the
curb I saw the telephone pole right in front of me. I had no
time to react when I tagged the pole. Dead Center.
The impact cracked the pole in half and it came collapsing on
top of my car. It tore all the lines off the surrounding houses
and left live wires in the street. Power was knocked out to the
road. I was wearing my seatbelt and the airbag deployed. I got
out of my car and went into one of the neighbors houses to try
and find a ride home. No injuries what-so-ever. Just a little
spooked.
My advice. If you get tired...stop driving.
