On October 27 2000, I was driving a 1994 Saturn on a busy highway in Indiana when a Dodge Ram decided it was ok to run a stop sign.
I was wearing my seat belt, but not the lap belt. I was told after the accident that if I had been wearing the lap belt, I would have been killed because I would have been upright when he ramped my car.
The force of impact knocked me over so when I came too, I my butt was in the drivers seat but my torso was in the passengers side. My injuries were a broken tibial plateau, all my ribs on my left side were broken, my 2 front teeth broken and I still have glass in my hand, head and face. I had emergency surgery the day of my accident where the doctor had to put a steel plate and 6 screws into my leg. In March I had to have arthroscopy surgery on my left knee to take out the bone fragments, but ended up having to do many other procedures. I had a torn meniscus among other things. I was just released from physical therapy 7 months after the accident. Nothing happened to the driver.
