Dodge Caliber Accident: At approximately 3:00AM while sitting on the computer; I heard a loud crash & than scraping sound. I immediately went to the front door to look out; when I saw car debris laying the road; and the street sign post that was at the corner of our yard, laying in the yard. After calling the cops; I went on outside to look around further. It turns out a drunk driver came around the 'S Bend Curve' that leads to our house; came along the wrong side of the road, struck the pole, ran it over and continued driving on.

At approximately 3:00AM while sitting on the computer; I heard a loud crash & than scraping sound. I immediately went to the front door to look out; when I saw car debris laying the road; and the street sign post that was at the corner of our yard, laying in the yard. After calling the cops; I went on outside to look around further. It turns out a drunk driver came around the 'S Bend Curve' that leads to our house; came along the wrong side of the road, struck the pole, ran it over and continued driving on.

The sign that was on the post was knocked off, and laying in the road, in front of the neighbors house. He left car debris in the form of part of his front bumper, headlight assembly & inner fender wheel behind. The headlight/corner light assembly just broke in to multiple pieces, that flew up to 100 feet away. While one of the cops was looking through the damage, hoping to find a license plate, he came across the inner fender wheel; that happened to have a sticker from Dodge on it, with the VIN number of the vehicle.
After running it through their computer system and it coming back with no record; they collected the sign & inner fender wheel and left. One cop went to take them back to the station; while the other continued to drive the neighborhood. While patrolling, he came acrossed a vehicle that was about 2 streets away, that looked like the damage on the front driver side would match up & called it in to have the fender wheel brought back to see if it would match up with the car. While the cop was waiting he ran the license plate on the car, which happen to be from the State of Kentucky; and than had the dispatcher run the VIN number for that plate registration and compare it to the one on the inner fender wheel. It turned out that it indeed was the vehicle they were looking for. The vehicle was parked in front of a big party going on.

After further investigation, the police obtained that the registered owner of the vehicle was not driving, and was able to locate the driver of the vehicle. As far as I know they just went on and did an accident report and gave him to citations, one for failure to stop at an accident scene/hit and run accident without injury; and one for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. I do not believe he was taken to jail though. The pictures were taken about 12 hours (about 5pm on 1/26/08) after the accident; so I did not get pictures of the debris from the car, or the sign itself; as they were all ready picked up. The 2 pictures of the sign post is as it lays in my yard still. The car was still parked in front of the house that he went to after hitting the sign; when I took the pictures of it. After careful review online of Dodge's website; I was able to determine that the car was a Steel Blue Metallic Dodge Caliber, either a 2007 or 2008 Model Year.
