Hello, I've just blundered across your website, and remembered I had these photos. I think you will find them amusing also.
The story behind them, as best as I can remember, is that a Saudi Arabian woman decided to take the family car for a drive. As most people know, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia does not allow women to drive, whether they are Saudi citizens or foreigners. Their may be some logic behind their law against women drivers.... but I digress.
The lady who was driving this car had no doubt observed her husband drive it before, and she thought it would be a simple thing to duplicate his movements with the steering wheel and control pedals. She managed to get the car up to an intersection, and was looking for a space in the traffic to squeeze into. However, she was very timid and missed several opportunities to merge into the flow of traffic.
A driver of a car waiting behind her for several minutes had observed her missing these opportunities, and finally beeped his horn at her. In a panic, she pressed the accelerator to the floor and lept into the middle of the street. Other drivers in the main road slammed on their brakes to avoid her, and this further frightened her. She had one foot on the accelerator and the other on the brake, she was spinning about in the middle of the road a minute, then released the brake and managed to straighten the steering. This led her car to leap the curb and slam into the house.
A woman inside the house had just climbed the stairwell when the Saudi lady's car came through the wall, knocking out the lower steps. She was uninjured, as was the driver and occupants of the car
A friend of mine, Mrs. B.W. (Mary) J., sent me these photos that she took when one of her neighbors called her to bring a camera. Mrs. J. can verify the story behind these photos, if you need confirmation. She lives very close to the scene of this accident.
