Find Auto Accident Lawyers: Click HereUnexpected Event On May 25, 2007 in Jacksonville NC, I was involved in an auto accident as the passenger of a newer model Monte Carlo. I was riding with a friend to the store and we were almost home when something totally unexpected happened. We were making a right hand turn on to the road we lived on, when we were hit by an suv. How did this happen? Well we were not in the right turning lane and made a last min turn in front of this vehicle which we did not realize was there. We were T-Boned at an angle on the passenger side (MY SIDE) and forced over a median and hit a tree head on. I don't remember much from the accident and in fact my memory does not go beyond seeing the headlights before impact. I didn't realize we had even been hit until I woke up on the ground numb and cold from shock. My friend was above me consoling me and trying to keep me still. I began recognizing my where about's and simultaneously began asking questions. I honestly had no idea what had just happened to us.
My friend began by telling me I would be all right but I was bleeding and needed to stay still. I don't know how much time passed before the EMS got to us. Time frames where a blur. I was loaded into the back of an ambulance and whisked away to to the ER. I was in the trauma unit for about 8 hours undergoing multiple tests and X-rays. All total I had minor injuries compared to some accident victims. I had multiple contusions and bruising from my seat belt (IT SAVED MY LIFE), I had a severe head concussion which is what caused me to black out (THANK GOODNESS), several lacerations on my right arm from the glass shattering from my window (total I had about 7 stitches in my right arm which is all they could get in because I was missing some chucks of skin in areas), a 1/4 inch glass shard was pulled from a wound on the back left side of my head, my right ankle was sprained and my left knee was horribly banged and bruised. This happened a little less than a month ago and I am recovering well. My arm is almost completely healed with minor scarring. I am still having problems with my ankle and knee, mostly soreness and minor pain and swelling.
My back aches most of the time. I also developed hematomas where the seat belt lay across my lap. They are going away but still give me trouble. My recovery time was estimated at 3 months total with 100% recovery. I was told that I may have complications further out from these injuries but for the most part I will be all right. PTSD is another thing I am dealing with since this is my first severe car accident ever. I have the fear of being a passenger with anyone in any vehicle now and am paranoid of other drivers on the road as well. I am not sure if I will ever fully remember the crash itself, not that I want to, but I feel like there is a puzzle piece missing from my life and it bothers me sometimes. I have learned a lot from this experience and will never take things as lightly as I once did. Thank you for reading about my experience. L. N.
