I'm 17 years old and was coming home from a concert with a friend at about 11:30 pm on October 17th 2007 in Louisville, KY. I was going way too fast, maybe 50 mph, and tried to drift through the turn that goes onto my street. Needless to say, I did not make it. I remember sliding sideways on the asphalt and looking out my window and seeing the stop sign coming towards us way too fast I heard a loud pop in my ear and the next thing I knew we were sitting in a ditch with my side curtain and side airbag deployed. Luckily, we both had our seatbelts on, but my friend pulled all the muscles in both sides of his neck and has to get physical therapy, and I don't know why his airbag didn't deploy and if it would've made any difference. We were both very lucky; there was a street sign next to the stop sign, which flew over the car and hit the windshield and ended up on the other side, and if it had come through the windshield, it could've killed one of us. I was driving my mom's '04 Toyota Prius, which is now totaled. Please, don't drive recklessly and make the same mistake I did; it cost my family a lot of money and I hurt my good friend. I have definitely learned the hard way that a car is not a toy. Ben C.
