1989 TOYOTA CAMRY - rear brake failure
I was driving to a friend's house in the mid-afternoon (at about
40 km/h... too fast for conditions) when, as i crested a hill
and began to brake for a stop sign, i hit a patch of black ice
and began to slide. I was later informed that my rear drum brakes
were completely useless as i slid helplessly towards a 'parked
98 Jeep Grand Cherokee... not only did if FEEL like forever,
it WAS a long time... nothing to do but sit and watch in horror.
The steering system was torn apart as the wheel caught on the
Jeep's bumper, and the drivers' side bodywork was ruined from
the front bumper back to the end of the rear door. The Jeep's
bumper literally exploded due to the cold, along with the grill
and headlight, and the frame was bent.
While it wasn't a bad accident, it could have been... and it
was completely preventable. The park brake had been broken since
i bought the car, and it was the cause of the rear brake failure.
Don't leave brake problems unattended to!!!
